How we decide

The rule behind the list

Every new car in India has been built to BS-VI since April 2020, and BS-VI made on-board diagnostics mandatory. Petrol, diesel, CNG and hybrid cars from then on have the OBD port and the standard engine data the gauge shows.

BS-VI carsFrom April 2020

Most BS-IV cars answer as well, often through the Bluetooth adapter rather than directly. A few early diesels use older protocols or do not answer at all, so tell us the car and we will check before you buy.

Older carsBS-IV

On VW Group 2.0 TSI and BMW B48 and B58 engines the gauge reads manufacturer data on top of the standard set, such as oil temperature. On other cars, fuel level and oil temperature appear when the engine computer reports them.

An electric car has no engine data for the gauge to read, so the Bear Gauge is not offered for electric cars today.
