A division of ICD Tuning

When the right answer is not on a shelf

Bear Optimizations is our custom engineering and development division, built for problems that off-the-shelf products cannot solve properly.

Bear Optimizations

What it is

Custom need. Custom engineering. Solid solution.

We create custom parts, custom calibrations and complete custom solutions around the actual requirement of the customer and the vehicle, rather than asking them to compromise with whatever happens to be available in the market.

  • Custom parts, designed for the requirement rather than adapted to it
  • Custom calibrations, developed on the vehicle they are for
  • Complete solutions, taken from concept through to a finished product

Understand the requirement first, and measure what exists today. You cannot build the right answer until you know precisely what the wrong ones get wrong.

BenchmarkB

Design the solution around the actual requirement of the customer and the vehicle, rather than around whatever happens to be available on a shelf.

EngineerE

Prototype, validate, and change the design when the testing says to. Depending on the project that means our in-house team, independent developers, specialist engineers, R&D partners or manufacturing facilities.

AdaptA

Test it thoroughly and keep refining until it performs exactly as intended. The work is finished when it does what the customer originally asked for, not when it is merely working.

RefineR

What it is not

Not the cheapest way to solve a problem

We are not trying to compete with mass-produced solutions or race anyone to the lowest price. The objective is to build the right solution, engineered properly, developed carefully, tested thoroughly and refined until it performs exactly as intended.

How the work gets done

Concept to finished product

Depending on the project, we work with our in-house team, independent developers, specialist engineers, R&D partners and manufacturing facilities across different disciplines. That lets us take an idea from concept and design, through prototyping and validation, and finally into a finished product.

Case study

ICD Gauge

A round OBD2 gauge for our AMC customers, built because no off-the-shelf unit showed the right things, in the right place, in the way we wanted them read at a glance. Hardware, firmware, on-screen interface and companion app are all ours.

An ESP32 driving a round GC9A01 display with capacitive touch and a rotary encoder, reading live data from a Bluetooth ELM327 adapter or directly from CAN.

The hardware

A sweep arc and a layout designed for a round screen rather than a rectangular one borrowed from elsewhere. Every screen state is rendered and checked against a round safe zone automatically.

The interface

The gauge publishes live data, fault codes, settings and device information over BLE, so a phone app can read the same vehicle the driver is looking at.

The companion
  • The gauge home screen showing oil and coolant temperature, volts, speed, boost and fuel level

    Home

  • The gauge showing a single large boost reading in bar

    One value, large

  • The gauge showing a full-screen overboost alert

    Alerts take the screen

  • The gauge listing stored fault codes with their plain-language meanings

    Faults, in plain words

  • The gauge showing a coolant temperature reading approaching its warning threshold

    Thresholds you set

  • The gauge settings screen for adjusting the redline

    Tuned to the car

Bear Optimizations exists because sometimes the correct answer is simply not available on a shelf. And when that happens, we build it.

Why we do it

Delivered without compromise

The satisfaction for us comes from delivering exactly what the customer originally wanted, without forcing them to compromise their requirement around what already exists.

Bring us the problem

If the part, the calibration or the solution you need does not exist yet, tell us what it has to do.
